While MLB The Show 17 is still 67 days away, that won't stop me from hoping and wishing for new Flashback cards for players that have been overlooked or forgotten over the years by the dev team. Every Friday for the next six weeks, I am going to take a look at one player for each team that I would LOVE to see in the game. First up, it's teams from the AL East! Baltimore Orioles - Miguel Tejada (2004) In 2004, Miggy drove in 150 runs and hit 34 bombs, as a shortstop...think about that for a second..Insanity! Tejada would add another top level SS card to the game as a feared hitting option. His defense was not great, he committed the 2nd most errors at SS that year, which will give players pause before using Tejada outright considering how important Shortstop defense has been in Diamond Dynasty. Boston Red Sox - Pedro Martinez (1999) 1999 was the high water mark for Pedro. He was 23-4 with a 2.07 ERA, 313 K's and a 0.92 WHIP. He also, unsurprisingly, won the second of his three career Cy Young awards. Imagine being able to take that fastball, curveball, change combination into a DD H2H game? No chance, that's what your opponent would have New York Yankees - Joe DiMaggio (1941) While '41 wasn't DiMaggio's most productive season at the plate (you could argue between 1937 and 1939), 1941 was easily Joltin' Joe's most famous because of the, still record, 56 game hit streak. 99 contact versus righties and lefties with mid-70's power and solid defense. Joe would be a staple on pretty much every high-end squad and also make him a very, very expensive card. Tampa Bay Rays - Aubrey Huff (2003) The Rays were tough to decide because most of their iconic franchise players already have cards, so I decided to go with the '03 version of Huff. A .311 average to go along with 34 homers and 107 RBI's is pretty solid. He hits well against both RH and LH meaning he wouldn't need a platoon. Huff would be a solid mid to high-80's card and make a good 25-man collection player for the Rays. Toronto Blue Jays - Carlos Delgado (2000) As a Jays fan, this was the hardest selection for me. My heart wanted me to pick Dave Stieb so bad (I disregarded Alomar considering he is already confirmed to be in '17), but in the end, I couldn't ignore Delgado's 2000 campaign. 57 doubles, 41 homers, 137 RBI's, 378 total bases and a 1.134 OPS. Absolute monster. Delgado could replace Jose Bautista as the conquest feed reward or even make a decent 40-man collection reward but this card would be a beast. With no shortage of top-tier 1B cards, Delgado would jump into that mix for sure. Well, there are the cards I would love to see in MLB The Show 17 from the AL East. Let me know in the comments what you guys think and who you would pick instead if you think I made a mistake in judgement. Next Friday, I will take a look at the American League Central!
