While the official Sony San Diego live stream isn't until Thursday, we have already had a wealth of new information for Franchise Mode fans in a blog, vlog and GameStop video released this week. I'm going to take a minute and break down what we know about 3 new features that have been confirmed to be in Franchise Mode. 1. Critical Situations Sort of similar to Play The Moments in Madden 17, Critical Situations will allow you to simulate games, but have the opportunity to jump in take control if the situation arises; such as trying to lock down a save late, break a tie or hit a walkoff home run. What I particularly like about this addition is that it's not tied only to score of a game. There are also statistical situations you will get to jump into like trying to complete the cycle, or hit your 3rd home run of the game. In these statistical situations, you will be locked to the player in question, meaning you will only be responsible for his actions throughout the situation. 2. Quick Manage A text-based interface that allows you to quickly simulate a game but still be in control of whats happening on the field. The interface looks very, very familiar to the gameplay interface in Out of the Park Baseball 17. If they were going to jack a quick-sim interface, they definitely picked the right one. Quick Manage also allows you to jump in and out of the game at any point, giving you ultimate influence on what happens. I will be interested to see how injuries and stamina are handled in the Quick Manage mode. I am a big fan of both of these additions. Giving users different ways to play and progress through a franchise, without giving up control over your team, is awesome. I can't say for sure if it will change how many full games I play over the course of a franchise season, but I can say for sure that it will fundamentally change the way people advance through the mode with different levels of speed, control and fun. 3. Player Quirks Player quirks are traits attached to your players that will give you a small statistical bonus should the trait be applicable. The example they gave in the blog involved Anthony Rizzo and his Breaking Ball Trait. Rizzo will receive a small hitting bonus when taking swings at breaking balls. No word on whether players will gain or lose traits as you progress through seasons, or if negative traits exist (such as a penalty trait for swinging at high fastballs, for example), but they do add another dynamic level to players in franchise. When constructing your roster, you can look to a player's traits, and not just hit attributes, to see whether or not he might be a good fit for your team. It's just another level of depth that SDS has added to managing your Franchise. I'm looking forward to Thursday's live stream to hear the team elaborate on these additions and see exactly how they are going to work. MLB The Show 17 drops on March 28th for the Playstation 4.
