The off-season is here, and it's time to get the last of the re-signings out of the way before free agency opens. Having to take over for a CPU-controlled team has left me with a small little issue at the moment. During Season 1, the CPU re-signed only 4 of our possible Free Agents (LE William Gholston, RT Demar Dotson, P Bryan Anger and MLB Sio Moore). That's all fine and good, I would prefer to have the final decision on who stays or goes for Season 2 anyways. The problem is that of the 25 pending Free Agents I have, 16 of them have declared they are not interested in signing with me.
The good - the highest rated pending FA I have is 79 overall. The bad - It's going to totally gut the depth of my roster. So, I re-sign the few players who I'm interested in keeping: QB Connor Cook, HB Paul Perkins, LG David Arkin and a few other below 70 overall role players. We have the option to Franchise Tag one of our outgoing players, but I'm not interested in spending $10-11 million to keep Daryl Smith around. Once all is said and done, we have a few holes to fill for sure. We have no starting WR2, FB, LOLB, FS or SS, not to mention several depth spots as well. I also have to be careful how the money gets spent because, even though the team has almost $40 million in cap space, there are several high profile players who are due a raise in the coming off-season, most notably, star WR Mike Evans. The pressure is on. Free Agency starts in just a few hours and lasts less than 36 hours before we start the draft. The decisions I make in the next 2 days will set the path forward for this franchise, here's hoping I don't screw it up.
