Me and Diamond Dynasty in MLB The Show 17 just haven't click, for a variety of reasons. In the first 7+ weeks since the game's release, I have spent my usual amount of time grinding missions and cards in an effort to build a team I can be proud of, but things have gotten in the way. Those things have now pushed me almost entirely out of the mode and, at the point, I'm not sure if there is any going back. Here are a few reasons why I'm giving up on Diamond Dynasty. *in no particular order 1. The Server Issues
I don't think I really need to elaborate much here, everyone knows exactly what I'm talking about. Almost 2 months in and the servers are still shaky at best. There are still issues being reported on a seemingly 24-hour basis. I have personally gotten frustrated when even games against the CPU will come up with a 'server error' upon game completion, meaning you just wasted 45-60 minutes of your time. This has happened to me AT LEAST 10 times this year. I think the Team Epic missions were a good idea, but when it takes you 4 games to get 2 wins vs. the Padres because of server issues, it really rubs shit all over the shiny new addition doesn't it? 2. The 99 Ken Griffey Jr. I hate that its May 21st and you can get this card. It's a great card, I just don't think it should be available yet. SDS mentioned during the pre-release streams that it was 'probably' going to take people until the All-Star Break to complete the program and unlock the 99 Ken Griffey Jr. card. I'm not mad at the people who grinded their way through the missions to get him, but I am mad at SDS because they were 100% in control of this. Completing the program was NOT POSSIBLE until Friday when they released the Impact Veteran White Sox Griffey into the ticket store. SDS decided that 8 weeks was long enough to wait to unlock, what might be, one of the best cards of 2017. I don't agree with the decision. Maybe they made the change in an effort to try and push the server issues under the rug, maybe they just thought it was the right time. It wasn't. 3. Pepe Alazar Where do I start about this train wreck of a card? What the hell is the point of having an All-99 card available in the game, in May, when you have a DD player still? I don't get it. The sad part is, you can get him. All you need to do is complete: All 30 collections, All 30 Team Epics, The Griffey, Archer, Jones, Drabek and Cruz programs. That will give you 100% and unlock the 52 Joe Random, which leads to a Player Epic to get the All-99 Alazar. An absolutely unnecessary card at any point in the season, but for him to be available in May, give me a break. I honestly haven't seen one person post something positive about this decision. Some players who already have, or are very close to getting this card are going to abuse the hell out of him, doesn't that sound like a fun game you want to play? I could understand in October, if the DD player didn't exist releasing a card like this, but essentially giving everyone who wants to put in the work access to 2 potential All-99 cards in their lineup, nope nope nope. Bad move. 4. I'm enjoying Franchise and RTTS enough that I don't need DD Here's the thing, I am still playing MLB The Show. I don't want you all to think I have abandoned my favorite sports game, because I haven't. Typically, I play a solid mix of Franchise and Diamond Dynasty. Then sprinkle in some Road To The Show later in the season when/if things get a little stale. In MLB 17, I enjoy the offline gameplay so much more than the online. I have a community franchise, a Jays rebuild franchise and a RTTS character that I am enjoying the hell out of and would pick any of those 3 saves over playing DD games right now. I don't have to worry about server issues or wonky morphing pitches. I don't have to worry about base running cheesers or weird disconnect losses. I can play those modes, enjoy them virtually free of issues, and still enjoy MLB The Show 17 ******* This is not in any way a pitch to get other people to stop playing Diamond Dynasty. I know there are plenty of people loving the mode out there. I'm still watching some of my favorite streamers rock DD and make some great content with the mode, but at this time, it's not for me. Maybe I will come back to it later on in the season, but for now, I've moved on.
