I love franchise modes, I really do. I feel like most games have a well done franchise mode that immerses you in the day-to-day minutiae that most coaches, GM's and owners face, but the one thing I have never, ever done, is play in an online franchise...until now. This will be the first in a series of posts documenting my first ever venture into an online franchise. Wish me luck! I was done with Madden 17. I had played it, gotten my fill from it and moved on to other games (or back to MLB The Show I mean). That was until a Twitter conversation brought me right back. I was tweeting back and forth with Adam aka. KnightAttack09 about something franchise related when I mistook the acronym 'FM' for 'Franchise Manager' when in fact he meant 'Franchise Mode'. The conversation then turned to the Press Row League, the Madden CFM. I had followed the Press Row League for a few years mostly because some of the biggest names in sports video game reporting partake in the league, and the classic matchups between PastaPadre and ThatSportsGamer are the stuff of legends. Adam mentions that the league is down in numbers this year and extends me an invite. Immediately I was taken aback. "I can't hang with these guys" is my initial thought. These are some of the best minds in sports gaming surely they will wipe the floor with my Canadian behind, but I am not one to back down from a challenge, so I accepted the invitation and watched the last few weeks of Season 1 unfold. Congrats to Kraig Kujawa and his Raiders for winning the Superbowl. So, now that Season 1 is in the books, it's go time! I was given my choice of any team in the NFC South (due to lack of an owner in the division). Initially I thought for sure I would take the Falcons, the best team in the division. After some thought and picking the brains of a few people I trust, I decided to take on the challenge of being the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They were a bottom five team in the first year of the league, but with a good core of players, and that high draft pick, it should be a fun season. The off-season is here, free agency awaits (it actually starts this afternoon), and the draft is only a few days away. I had better get this puppy fired up and make the necessary preparations. Oh, Vincent Jackson just retired...well I didn't want him anyways! Let's take a look at what kind of mess the CPU General Manager left me before he was fired. Oh...well this is going to be fun.
